PharmaResearch Culture Foundation invites Gangwon Province (Gangneung)-based artists to participate in the Gangneung International Art Festival 2027 (GIAF27), to be held in Gangneung in autumn 2027.

Since its launch in 2022, the Gangneung International Art Festival has interpreted Gangneung’s unique narratives through the lens of contemporary art, fostering a platform where art and community meet. Through its GIAF23 in 2023 and GIAF25 in 2025, the festival has grown into an international art platform rooted in Gangneung, expanding collaborations and exchanges that connect local lives and practices.

The GIAF27 will be anchored in Gangneung’s new cultural complex, continuing long-term experimentation and the expansion of its spaces. We look forward to bold proposals and new challenges connecting local voices to the global stage.

1. Overview

Production of commissioned artwork responding to the theme of the Gangneung International Art Festival 2027 (exhibition title TBA), and participation in exhibition-related programs. Collaboration with related programs will be discussed depending on the work.

○ Category: Open to all disciplines (no genre restrictions)

○ Number of Selected Artists: (individuals/collectives)

○ Festival Period: Oct 2027 – May 2028 (TBC)

2. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be artists who are from Gangwon-do or have an established connection to Gangwon-do, and whose artistic practice is based in Gangwon-do (Gangneung).

○ Applicants are eligible if they meet at least one of the following conditions:

- Place of birth is Gangwon-do (Gangneung)

- Current residence is Gangwon-do (Gangneung)

- Primary site of artistic practice/activities is Gangwon-do (Gangneung)

※ After selection, supporting documents may be requested to verify eligibility. If eligibility cannot be confirmed, the selection may be revoked.

3. Support (Benefits)

○ Mentoring & Research

- Mentoring with the GIAF team from concept to exhibition delivery.

- Research collaboration and field visits in Gangneung (Accommodation provided for field visits and on-site production.).

- Intensive workshop sessions.

○ Production & Technical

- Support for producing the GIAF27 commissioned artwork (budget and implementation).

- Technical review across production stages (materials, structure, durability, safety, installation).

- Collaboration with technicians and specialists, as needed.

○ Exhibition Build & Operations

- Support for transport, installation, and deinstallation.

- On-site technical coordination and installation-related communication.

○ Promotion & Publications (Online/Offline)

- Online/offline communications support (channels and content coordination).

- Photo/video documentation support.

- Festival catalogue publication/distribution and archiving support.
